Common FAQs:

Should I wash my wool?
Hand dyed wools are already felted and do not need to be washed.  The process of dyeing the wool is performed at high temperatures, which causes the wool to tighten and fluff.  For wool that is not hand dyed, the felting process can be reproduced by washing and drying at high temperatures.
The question is, though, do you really need to wash the wool?  The answer is simple.  If you are happy with the density and color of the wool, it does not need to be washed.  If you would like to tighten the weave, or soften the color however, the felting process can accomplish both of these tasks.

The key is to experiment with small pieces to see how they react to the felting process.  Some wool has been known to shrink excessively and there is no way of pre-determining the amount of shrinkage prior to processing.   If the felting process does not tighten the fibers enough, the process can be repeated.
